Depression can often strike as your body travels through the seasons of change into the menopause. Menopause depression is far more than just having a bad day and it can manifest itself just as aggressively as any other type of depression can do. It is no different to any other type of depression leaving it’s victims with an abundance of negative feelings. This menopause symptom can last for years or be over in a matter of days and there’s no way of gauging its lifespan.

Menopause isn’t the cause of depression but it creates the right environment for it to take hold. Even though menopause and depression seem to go hand in hand, menopause isn’t the direct cause. On a physical level the body is undergoing some immense changes that in it can put a tremendous mental strain on the sufferer. You may notice that you don’t seem to have the energy you used to, this is due to the reduction in your estrogen and one of the most common symptoms is an unshiftable tiredness.

Some women simply coast through the menopause effortlessly whilst others battle with the pending loss of their fertility and youthfulness. Other terms used to describe this pivotal stage of your body’s change can be midlife crisis and this can widely affect men as well as women. Melancholy thoughts of past years and time running out without fulfilling ambitions can whirl round your mind and compounding the feelings of negativity.

Remedy Menopause Depression Without Using HRT

One of the most frightening menopause symptoms is the depression that many women suffer. The realization that her childbearing days had over leaves many women with the feeling that they are no longer a proper woman. The symptoms of menopause can take hold very gradually and varies a great deal from a sense of low mood to thoughts of self harm.

If you have suffered from thoughts of this nature phenomena, look for doctor’s help immediately. It is beyond the scope of this article to try to treat severe or suicidal depression but be assured it can be treated. During the initial stages of the menopause, many women experience feelings of inadequacy or low self esteem. As some medical doctors still won’t confirm menopause as a cause of depression, there is plenty of evidence that low self worth and poor self image are symptoms which appear around this time.

One of the worst failings with the world nowadays is that the support networks which our mothers and grandmothers had available to them are no longer there. As the close knit families and the wise auntie are much less in evidence, thus we have to garner the support we need elsewhere. A big part of depression is a feeling of helplessness and this is made much worse by a fundamental lack of knowledge of what the menopause really is but let me pass on this little fact.
