Menopause is a disorder that begins to develop in women in their mid thirties and early forties. As the levels of estrogen which is a very important hormone in the woman’s body begin to decrease, then that period is called perimenopause. As a result women suffering from perimenopause experience symptoms such as excess vaginal bleeding, irregular menstrual cycles and hot flashes at night along with sleeplessness.

Menopause hot flashes are one of the many symptoms which women experiencing the change of life associated with menopause experience. Menopause hot flashes happen as a result of the changing hormone levels in the body. Hot flashes along with many other menopause symptoms comprise what happens when the body undergoes various physiological changes as a result of the cessation of a woman’s menstrual cycles.

Menopause sufferers typically claim hot flashes as being pretty much what the name infers: a feeling of heat mixed with a rapid heartbeat and swelling. A typical hot flash can last anywhere from around 2 – 30 minutes with the average woman. These may happen a few times a week or even a few times a day depending on the severity of menopause and of the hormonal changes.

Younger women who are going through menstruation or are expected to go through it soon may also have hot flashes or cold flashes. These episodes don’t last as long as menopause hot flashes and are typically not as noticeable even though they can provide problems of their own. If hot flashes happen at times that are not associated with the menstrual cycle, they may actually be another condition symptom. Effect of Menopause Perimenopause On Your Health

While menopause is a familiar term to most women but perimenopause isn’t. It is the process of change which leads up to menopause and it can start as early as your late thirties or as late as your early fifties. How long this phase lasts varies however it usually lasts from 2 to 8 years and you may have irregular periods or other symptoms during this time. Women often started to notice their symptoms between the ages of 35 and 45 however perimenopause and menopause and hormonal changes seem to go hand in hand. Most perimenopausal women experience changes in their menstrual cycle but some women begin having longer cycles because they are not ovulating as frequently. When estrogen levels start to drop, the follicular phase of the cycle may be reduced and this can shorten the total cycle from 28 – 30 days to 24 – 26 days resulting in more frequent periods. This declining or fluctuating estrogen level can produce a host of symptoms like increasing vaginal dryness, breast tenderness, hot flashes and many other complications.

Sudden mood changes are an extremely common sign of menopause perimenopause and you may notice yourself feeling anxious, sad or depressed. Doctors believe that this is associated to a drop in the body’s estrogen levels and other factors like sleep habits, physical inactivity, diet and smoking can also influence your mood. As it is perfectly normal to get a case of the blues, depression which continues for more than two weeks can indicate a problem.
