One of the most frightening menopause symptoms is the depression that many women suffer. The realization that her childbearing days had over leaves many women with the feeling that they are no longer a proper woman. The symptoms of menopause can take hold very gradually and varies a great deal from a sense of low mood to thoughts of self harm.
If you have suffered from thoughts of this nature phenomena, look for doctor’s help immediately. It is beyond the scope of this article to try to treat severe or suicidal depression but be assured it can be treated. During the initial stages of the menopause, many women experience feelings of inadequacy or low self esteem. As some medical doctors still won’t confirm menopause as a cause of depression, there is plenty of evidence that low self worth and poor self image are symptoms which appear around this time.
One of the worst failings with the world nowadays is that the support networks which our mothers and grandmothers had available to them are no longer there. As the close knit families and the wise auntie are much less in evidence, thus we have to garner the support we need elsewhere. A big part of depression is a feeling of helplessness and this is made much worse by a fundamental lack of knowledge of what the menopause really is but let me pass on this little fact.
